Refit Update – May 2020

Rewind the clock…

Back to March 23rd and pre lockdown, we had been rushing to get Puffin back in the water that week, fearing the start of restrictions. Even with the amazing help of Jade and Gav of C9 Boat services and Andy “Boatman” we couldn’t get her back in the water before things came to a standstill and we were locked out for the duration.

Looking on the bright side, we did replace the driveshaft and rudder bearings. After concluding the rudder was sound and dry, we challenged Andy’s crane skills to lift Puffin high enough to slot it back into place, ready for the refurbished shoe to be fitted.

The new stainless steel stem-head was dry fitted, ready for polishing and mounting. The mast was stepped, with the fittings for the new Solent stay and the refurbished furler in place and ready to go.

So not too bad I guess, still lots to do before we’re sailing, but we’re looking forward to getting things moving again just as soon as the Welsh Government begins to lift the restrictions, 8 weeks feels like a long time, fingers crossed not too long now.
