Ian becomes RIN Associate Fellow

Hi Team,

An unusual update this week, as I’m very pleased to report that I have been confirmed as an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN).

The Royal Institute of Navigations mission statement is, “working together for a more navigable world” and is a UK organisation formed in 1947 that connects interested parties to promote knowledge and share insights in all aspects of positioning, navigation and timing.

As such I hoped that the Golden Globe Race would prove to be of interest to the RIN membership and particularly the Small Craft Group, that promotes best practices for navigation and works closely with bodies such as the MCA, RYA and Trinity House.

RIN’s Director, John Pottle explains; “We are now delighted to recognise Ian’s navigation experience through the award of Associate Fellowship. We look forward to being involved and keeping in touch with Ian as GGR 2022 unfolds.

“The Golden Globe Race is a test of navigation as well as endurance. Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has been a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation since 1990 and a Fellow since 1994.”

I’m planning on sharing my preparations for the race and of course my actual experience in the GGR with RIN members in blog posts, webcasts and speaking engagements over the next few years, while having the chance to learn from the advice and experience of other members.
