The 2022 Golden Globe Race

Cassen & Plath GMBH

Hi Team, I’m very excited to say that Cassens & Plath GmbH makers of handcrafted nautical instruments have kindly agreed to support Team HJ and our Golden Globe Race campaign by donating their excellent magnetic compasses and a top of the range sextant to Puffin for the race.

If you remember we sent Puffin’s original binnacle compass back to Istvan, Istvan Kopar Solo Circumnavigator it had a lot of sentimental value for Istvan after guiding him on two circumnavigations and he plans to fit it again to his yacht Salammbo for his next adventure.

I was really pleased to do this, but it did leave Puffin without a steering compass, then following a chance meeting at the Dusseldorf boat show, Christoph from Cassens & Plath GmbH soon came to the rescue, with not just a new compass for the binnacle, but also an Iota model for the skipper’s bunk and an amazing Horizon Ultra sextant. Beautiful traditional craftsmanship that represents everything the GGR is all about!

More updates on Cassens & Plath to follow just as soon as we get to fit the new compasses on Puffin and use the sextant for some real navigation.

All we need now is an end to the lockdown for everybody, in the meantime stay safe all.
